ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode is now available on the web

OpenAI has finally introduced the Advanced Voice Mode feature, a key part of its GPT-4o model launched in May, to the web version of ChatGPT after a long wait.

Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer (CPO), announced on social media platform X that this feature, which allows users to engage in voice conversations with ChatGPT, will be made available this week to subscribers of Plus, Enterprise, Teams, and Edu plans.

Previously launched in September for Plus and Teams subscribers on the mobile app, this feature offers users a choice of 9 unique voice options. The updated interface not only recognizes speech pace but also understands non-verbal cues and responds accordingly, providing a more intuitive interaction.

How to Use Voice Chat on the Web
To initiate a voice conversation on the web, users need to select the microphone icon located at the bottom of the ChatGPT prompt window and grant microphone access through their browser. Once permission is granted, users are directed to a screen featuring a blue orb and can choose from a library of voices with different character traits to begin their session.

Subscription and Usage Details
Plus and Teams subscribers are subject to a daily usage limit when using this feature.
The Advanced Voice Mode is expected to be rolled out to free-tier users in the coming weeks, offering them a one-month preview opportunity.
With this innovation, OpenAI continues to enhance user experiences and aims to foster more natural communication between humans and AI.
