OpenAI Challenges Google with New ChatGPT Search Feature

OpenAI has officially introduced ChatGPT Search, an enhanced version of the prototype SearchGPT revealed earlier this year. This new feature enables users to access up-to-the-minute information on the internet quickly and easily. With real-time access to sports scores, stock data, and news updates, ChatGPT Search also includes direct links in each response, allowing users to explore sources firsthand.

ChatGPT Search can determine when a web search is necessary based on the user’s questions or let users manually initiate a search with a new web search icon. Available on both desktop and mobile, the feature is initially accessible to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers. Corporate and educational users will gain access in the coming weeks, with availability for free users planned in the coming months.

This advanced search experience runs on an optimized version of OpenAI’s GPT-4o model and leverages OpenAI’s partnerships with news, data, and content providers to deliver accurate, current information. ChatGPT Search not only expands information access for users but also offers content creators an opportunity to reach broader audiences.

Unlike traditional search engines, ChatGPT Search enables users to conduct in-depth research in a natural conversational setting. OpenAI’s future plans include expanding search capabilities in areas like shopping and travel, integrating “Advanced Voice Assistant” and canvas features to enhance user interaction. Designed to become more widely available over time, ChatGPT Search aims to make digital information more accessible, interactive, and user-friendly for all.
