Spotify has announced a new partnership with ElevenLabs to make AI-generated audiobooks more accessible on its platform. Through this collaboration, authors will be able to use ElevenLabs’ AI-powered voice technology to create audiobooks and distribute them via Spotify’s Findaway Voices platform.
As AI-generated voice content continues to grow, ElevenLabs’ advanced voice synthesis technology, which supports 29 languages, offers authors a wide range of narration options. The free version allows up to 10 minutes of text-to-speech conversion per month, while the Pro subscription, priced at $99 per month, provides up to 500 minutes of voice generation for longer content.
Spotify will clearly label all AI-generated audiobooks, ensuring that listeners are aware they are not narrated by human voice actors. While the company acknowledges the value of traditional voice narration, it also highlights that AI-powered voiceovers can reduce costs for independent authors and make it easier to convert older books into audiobook format.
Previously, Spotify partnered with Google Play Books on a similar initiative and now aims to expand its AI-narrated audiobook library through future collaborations. However, this development could also spark debates within the publishing industry regarding the quality of AI-generated narration and its impact on authentic storytelling.
Meanwhile, Spotify has also been making headlines with its upcoming Hi-Fi plan, which is expected to finally introduce lossless audio quality after an eight-year wait.
