As Donald Trump prepares to take over the White House from the Biden administration on January 20, donations to his inauguration fund are pouring in. Last week, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos each contributed $1 million to the fund, joined by a $1 million donation from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Altman’s personal contribution highlights the growing effort by technology leaders to solidify their ties with the incoming administration. The donation comes as figures like Elon Musk, David Sacks, and Marc Andreessen are set to advise Trump on technology policy during his four-year term.
Notably, Altman, who had financially supported Joe Biden’s campaign during the election, shared his optimism for the new administration in an interview with Bloomberg News. He said, “President Trump will lead our country into the age of artificial intelligence, and I am personally excited to support initiatives that will ensure America stays ahead of its competitors.”
AI Sector Joins the Effort
In addition to Sam Altman’s backing, the AI sector has also stepped up to support Trump’s new term. AI-powered search engine Perplexity contributed $1 million to the inauguration fund. Dmitry Shevelenko, the company’s Chief Business Officer, stated, “Perplexity is eager to be a strong partner to the new administration.”
This growing interest from the tech and AI communities signals a broader commitment to maintaining the United States’ global leadership in the age of artificial intelligence.
