The popular messaging platform WhatsApp, with over 2.9 billion users worldwide, has introduced a new feature: voice messages can now be transcribed into text!
A New Way to Convert Voice Messages to Text
This new feature, available on iOS and Android devices, allows users to convert voice messages into written text. It’s particularly helpful for situations where listening to a voice message is inconvenient.
To activate this feature, users need to:
Open the “Chats” section in WhatsApp.
Enable the “Voice Message Transcriptions” option.
Once activated, simply press and hold a voice message and select the “Transcribe” option.
Available Languages
The new feature will be rolled out globally in the coming weeks, supporting specific languages:
iOS 16 and Above:
English, Turkish, Spanish, French, German, Korean, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, and Chinese.
iOS 17 and Above:
Additional support for Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, Hebrew, and Thai.
Android:
Initially available in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. More languages will be added for Android in the coming months.
How Does It Help?
This feature is designed to improve user experience, particularly for those unable to listen to voice messages during meetings, in crowded places, or for individuals with hearing impairments. With this step, WhatsApp takes its usability to the next level.
